Acute Gastritis: It is sudden in onset and is characterized by inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It causes severe pain, and can be caused due to bacterial and viral infections and due to the side effects of NSAIDs.

Chronic Gastritis: Slow in onset, chronic gastritis is the inflammation of the stomach lining. Excessive caffeine, alcohol, and certain infections can cause chronic gastritis.

Symptoms:

  • Nausea
  • Indigestion
  • Upper abdominal pain.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Belching
  • Bloating
  • Weight loss.

Gastritis can be a symptom of an underlying disease like H. pylori infection, bile reflux disease, pernicious anemia, autoimmune gastritis, and others.

Generally, antacids, H2 Blockers, and Proton Pump Inhibiters are prescribed for gastritis. In homeopathy, the underlying cause along with the constitutional predisposition of the patient is taken into consideration and treatment is prescribed. Treatment is also dependent on other associated symptoms. Here are some homeopathic medicines for gastritis; however, all homeopathic medicines should be taken under the guidance of a qualified homeopath.

  • Nux Vomica.
  • Lycopodium
  • Belladonna
  • Bryonia alba.
  • Arsenic album.

If Ignored

Left untreated, gastritis may lead to stomach ulcers and stomach bleeding. Rarely, some forms of chronic gastritis may increase your risk of stomach cancer, especially if you have extensive thinning of the stomach lining and changes in the lining’s cells.
