What is a Coronavirus?
Coronavirus is a virus which belongs to a large family of viruses. It may cause disease in animals or human beings. There are various types of coronaviruses which cause respiratory illness in humans such as common cold , cough and some of the well-known diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). This year Coronavirus has become more noted due to the pandemic Covid-19(Coronavirus Disease 2019)
What is Covid-19 ?
Covid-19 is the name of the disease discovered in December 2019 when the outbreak began in the city of Wuhan, China. This is caused by a virus, Coronavirus, one of the large family of Coronaviruses. Covid-19 is announced as global pandemic by WHO as it is affecting more than 200 countries globally.
What are the symptoms of Covid-19?
COVID-19 has varied symptoms with the emergence of its spread across the globe. The most common symptoms it are
- Dry cough and
Other less common symptoms are
- Body pains
- Blocked nose
- Sore throat
- Loss of taste and/or smell
- Rash on skin
- Purplish discoloration of fingers or toe nails
It is worth noting that most people who suffer from COVID-19 recover without specific treatment.
COVID-19 affects more seriously and intensely in the patients with underlying medical conditions, co-morbidities, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, lung and heart problems, chronic kidney disease or cancer.
How does COVID-19 spread ?
COVID-19 spreads from infected person to another person through small droplets expelled from the nose or mouth of a person with COVID-19 coughs, sneezes, or speaks. The transmission of COVID-19 virus may become possible in the persons on touching their eyes, nose and mouth after they come in contact with objects and surfaces which contain droplets
Since these droplets are relatively heavy, they do not travel far or live in air but fall on the ground. And that is why, it is recommended to maintain atleast 1 meter distance away from one another.
It should be noted that the droplets can fall on objects and surfaces other than the ground. People can get infected by touching those objects and surfaces. Therefore, it is recommended to wash your hands regularly with soap and water or sanitise with alcohol-based solution frequently.
What is the treatment for COVID-19?
As on June 2020, there are no medicines that have shown to prevent or cure the disease.
However, homeopathic medicines trials on numerous patients in various countries has shown the efficacy of homeopathic treatment and prevention from COVID-19 and its appreciation is due from larger medical community.
What is the way to protect from COVID-19?
The best ways recommended to protect yourself and others against COVID-19 are :
- Wash your hands with soap and water as and when you touch objects and surfaces.
- Clean your hands with alcohol-based sanitizer frequently and regularly
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- During coughing, sneezing or speaking loudly, cover the face or mouth with the bend of elbow or tissue.
- Always maintain a distance of atleast 1 meter or 6 feet from one another.
